Presidency Fires Back at ADC After Global Report Names Lagos Fastest-Growing Tech Hub

The Presidency has responded sharply to opposition politicians, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following a global report that ranked Lagos as the world’s fastest-growing emerging technology ecosystem.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, shared the news on his verified X account, taking a pointed swipe at the opposition.

“ADC must not read this,” he wrote, adding that “desperate politicians, always hunting for negative statistics, will be unhappy that Tinubu’s Nigeria has earned global tech recognition.”

The ranking comes from Global Statistics’ list of the top 20 fastest-growing emerging tech ecosystems worldwide. Lagos claimed the top spot, surpassing cities such as Istanbul (Türkiye), Pune and Mumbai (India), and Belo Horizonte (Brazil), representing Asia, Africa, and South America.

Onanuga framed the accolade as a strong rebuttal to the opposition’s “persistent negative narratives” about Nigeria’s economy and governance.

The ADC has consistently criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly over economic reforms.

This recognition shines a spotlight on Lagos’ thriving startup ecosystem, innovation drive, and growing influence in the global digital economy—offering a boost of positive news amid ongoing political debate.
