Abia lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh dumps AGPA, set to announce new party
Alex Ikwechegh, the lawmaker representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives has resigned from his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Ikwechegh announced his resignation from APGA in a handwritten letter addressed to the chairman of the party in his ward.
According to the lawmaker, his resignation as a member of the party takes effect immediately.
“I respectfully submit my resignation from my membership of the party, APGA, effective immediately,” Ikwechegh stated in the undated letter.
He also appreciated the leadership of APGA for providing him with the platform and opportunities needed throughout his tenure as an Abia lawmaker.
“I appreciate the opportunity given to me to serve and contribute during my sojourn with the party. I wish the party continued progress and success in its future endeavours,” the lawmaker said.
Although, Ikwechegh failed to highlight the reason for dumping APGA or his next line of action, his resignation comes on the heels of heated political reactions within Abia State.
With the state governor being a strong member of the Labour Party, and the power at the national level seeking means to either lure him to the All Progressives Congress (APC), there are likelihood that Ikwechegh might be headed for the ruling party.
However, political analysts have also noted that Ikwechegh over time has continued to admire the leadership style of Governor Alex Otti of Abia and might lean towards the Labour Party despite all its political crises.
