‘Tinubu Will Do Anything to Crush Opposition in Nigeria’ – ADC Chieftain Raises Alarm

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of attempting to weaken and silence political opposition in Nigeria.

Momodu made the claim in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account. The former presidential aspirant argued that the current political climate shows growing pressure on opposition parties.

According to him, the administration is using its influence to tighten control over Nigeria’s political space.

He warned that the situation could worsen if Nigerians fail to rise above party loyalties and defend democratic competition. Momodu insisted that a strong opposition is necessary for the survival of democracy.

In his statement, the media entrepreneur linked several internal crises in opposition parties to powerful political interests aligned with the ruling government.

He suggested that the influence of the presidency has played a role in ongoing tensions within major parties.

Momodu also addressed debates surrounding the leadership struggles within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He rejected claims that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should be blamed for the party’s problems.

“I do not understand the logic behind this conversation: the only reason Wike could not be suspended or expelled from PDP is his stranglehold on the Judiciary and President Tinubu.

“Obi left PDP before the Presidential Primary. How can any serious commentator blame Atiku for the problems of PDP.

“PDP chose to throw its Primary wide open, a decision that was controlled by Wike’s group, and Wike lost, how was that Atiku’s fault again.

“Wike lobbied to be Atiku’s running mate and lost out, and later chose to support Tinubu; how’s that Atiku’s fault.

“Was there a guarantee that either Atiku or Obi or Wike would have defeated Tinubu on PDP platform.

“The Constitution of Nigeria supremely allows everyone to pursue his/her own dreams, legitimately, so what’s this obsession with trying to suppress Atiku who has never stopped others from pursuing theirs.

“Was it Atiku that scattered the Labor and NNPP Parties. Why are people pretending not to know that Nigeria is under a tyrannical government with access to unprecedented war chest and appurtenances of power.

“It should be obvious by now that Tinubu does not want any opposition and he will do anything and everything to exterminate and obliterate opposition, if Nigerians do not unite beyond parties to fight back.”

Momodu’s remarks also referenced former Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike, who played a key role in the PDP’s internal disputes after the 2023 general elections.

He further mentioned the departure of Peter Obi, who left the PDP ahead of the presidential primaries and later contested under the Labour Party Nigeria.

The ADC chieftain maintained that political competition should be allowed to thrive in a democratic system. He called on Nigerians across party lines to remain vigilant and defend the country’s democratic institutions.
