“PDP No Longer a Political Party” – APC Spokesman Reacts to Defections in Opposition
The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) can no longer function effectively as a political party, following the growing wave of defections from the opposition camp.
Morka made the remark during an appearance on Arise Television’s morning programme, where he spoke on the recent political developments that have seen several politicians abandon the PDP for the ruling APC.
The APC spokesman blamed the trend on what he described as deep internal problems within the opposition party.
According to him, the crisis within the PDP has weakened its structure and reduced its ability to offer direction to its members.
“The PDP is no longer able to call itself a political party. The PDP is incapable, by its own internal dysfunction, of offering its members any sensible, credible, smart, actionable platform to pursue their political aspirations,” Morka said.
He explained that many politicians leaving the PDP were simply searching for a more stable political environment to pursue their ambitions.
Instead, he described the defections as proof that the ruling party has become a stronger and more attractive political platform.
“When people decamp to the APC, it is an endorsement of the party. It is a statement that the APC is able to offer what the opposition cannot offer, and that is not our fault,” he said.
The APC spokesman further dismissed claims that Nigeria may be drifting toward a one-party state. According to him, such suggestions ignore the political realities of the country and the nature of democratic competition.
“When people suggest that the country is turning into a one-party state, that is utterly mischievous because it does not take into account the history and realities of a democratic society like we have in Nigeria.”
