JUST IN: ADC faults Delta governor’s silence over harassment incidents in Ozoro
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, national publicity secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has criticised the governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for not speaking directly about the alleged sexual harassment incidents in Ozoro.
Abdullahi described videos circulating online from the community as horrifying, adding that the incident was particularly troubling because it occurred in a town with educational institutions where young women and girls should feel safe.
His words: “The videos circulating from Ozoro are horrifying. It is even more disturbing given that this occurred in a community with a university and several schools, where young women and girls should feel safe.
“The ADC insists on zero impunity. We call on the police to be thorough and make an example of this case. Every single man that participated in the sexual harassment and assault of the women of Ozoro must be identified and prosecuted.”
Abdullahi said it was unacceptable that days after the incident, the Delta governor had not addressed the matter personally.
“It is unacceptable that days later, the Governor of Delta State has not spoken directly, choosing instead to speak through aides,” he said.
“Silence at a time like this is a failure of moral leadership. This is reprehensible, and it has no place in Nigeria,” he added.
