CNG-powered inter-state luxury bus explodes at Kaduna motor park

A luxury travel bus reportedly powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) exploded at Mando motor park in Kaduna in the early hours of Sunday.
The explosion triggered panic among residents and transport operators around the park. Sources at the motor park said the bus was parked when the explosion occurred.
Two other buses belonging to the same transport company were also affected by the fire that followed the blast.
Despite the impact, no casualties were recorded because the vehicles were unoccupied at the time.
A commercial driver at the park said the incident was unlikely to have been caused by a bomb.
“It happened during the night. It was not a bomb; we suspect it is related to the CNG. No one died or was injured. The affected buses were parked,” the driver said.
A manager with a logistics company operating within the park also confirmed that the buses were stationary when the explosion occurred.
According to him, the affected vehicles were newly acquired and scheduled to begin passenger boarding later in the morning.
“Thank God no one was inside the vehicles. They were parked to board passengers this morning,” he said.
Security operatives, including personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, visited the scene and began preliminary investigations into the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, the police had yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the explosion.
