‘Bad Script’ – Oyo APC Reacts to Impeachment Plot Against Governor Makinde

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has dismissed claims of an impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the allegation as a “badly written script” designed to mislead the public.
The opposition party said the narrative was aimed at creating sympathy for the governor and distracting residents from more pressing political issues in the state. It insisted that there was no credible move to remove Makinde from office.
In a statement released in Ibadan on Tuesday, the APC, through its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, rejected reports linking prominent figures, including President Bola Tinubu, to the alleged impeachment plan. The party described such claims as baseless and lacking any form of evidence.
Sadare stated, “Governor Makinde ought to have been impeached long ago if members of the State House of Assembly were alive to their responsibilities, given several alleged cases of abuse of office recorded against him since May 2019.”
He argued that the governor was already facing what he called an inevitable political decline. According to him, Makinde’s leadership style and decisions have weakened his political standing ahead of future elections.
The APC further claimed that the impeachment narrative was carefully crafted by loyalists of the governor to control public perception. The party said the move was meant to prepare the ground for political survival, especially as uncertainties grow around Makinde’s influence ahead of 2027.
Sadare added that the situation was worsened by recent allegations made by former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose. Fayose had accused Makinde of plotting against the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja.
Fayose had said, “Those who are still in doubt about Governor Seyi Makinde’s plot to remove the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, should keep their fingers crossed and follow unfolding events,” suggesting that recent developments were part of a wider plan.
Reacting to this, the APC maintained that the impeachment story was a diversion. The party said it was designed to shift attention from the controversy surrounding the alleged rift between the governor and the traditional institution.
The party also alleged that no serious political actor was interested in pursuing the removal of a governor it described as already nearing political irrelevance. It insisted that the claims were exaggerated and lacked substance.
Meanwhile, members of the Oyo State House of Assembly have denied any involvement in an impeachment move. They also rejected suggestions that external forces or notable personalities were backing such a plan.
The APC went further to list several allegations against the governor. These include claims of financial mismanagement across local government councils, land-related controversies, inflated contract costs, and the alleged diversion of federal relief funds meant for victims of the Bodija explosion.
Sadare insisted that these issues remain serious and could become major political talking points in the coming months. He added that “no amount of blackmail or propaganda can save Governor Makinde,” stressing that the truth would eventually emerge.
