WATCH: Drama as ADC Chieftain Oyegun Mistakenly Shouts ‘APC’ at Convention

There was a moment of drama at the national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja after a slip by one of its top members, John Odigie-Oyegun, drew laughter from party delegates and observers.

Oyegun, while addressing party members at the event, mistakenly shouted “APC” before quickly correcting himself mid-speech.

The incident briefly interrupted proceedings and turned into a light moment during what was otherwise a serious political gathering.

The former national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) immediately realised the error and paused, saying, “No, no, did I just say APC?” His remark triggered laughter across the hall as delegates reacted to the unexpected slip.

In a swift response, former Kogi West senator, Dino Melaye, who was present at the convention, jokingly interjected, “Baba, you need to seek refuge from the devil.” The comment further heightened the mood, with many in attendance visibly amused.

Oyegun, however, played along with the moment. He admitted that traces of his past political affiliation were still lingering, joking that he might need a strong “purgative” to completely rid himself of the APC reflex.

Despite the brief comic relief, Oyegun quickly returned to the substance of his speech. He used the platform to reaffirm the ADC’s ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections. He declared that the party is positioning itself as a serious contender for power at the federal level.

He said, “We are ready to take over Aso Rock, and it is not going to be business as usual. I want everybody to know that because they keep accusing us that John, you were part of them.”

The incident has since gained attention online, with Nigerians sharing mixed reactions. While some viewed it as a harmless mistake, others described it as a reflection of the deep ties many politicians still have with their former parties.
