Details Emerge as Atiku Holds Late-Night Meeting With Christian Bishops in Abuja

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar held a closed-door meeting with two Christian clerics late Tuesday night in Abuja, as fresh details emerged about the quiet engagement.

The meeting took place at his residence in the Federal Capital Territory. It involved Bishop (Dr.) Joseph Stanley and Archbishop (Dr.) Kingsley Oloro. Both men are regarded as influential voices within the Christian community.

Atiku later confirmed the visit in a post shared on his verified X account. He described the discussion in simple terms but gave little away about what was discussed.

“Last night, I received two Christian clerics, Bishop (Dr.) Joseph Stanley and Archbishop (Dr.) Kingsley Oloro, at my residence in Abuja. We engaged in fruitful conversations,” he wrote.

Despite the brief statement, insiders say the meeting may not be unconnected to ongoing political consultations ahead of future elections.

The former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party has remained active in political circles since the last general election.

Sources familiar with such engagements say meetings like this often go beyond courtesy visits. They are used to build alliances, strengthen trust, and keep communication open with key religious leaders across the country.

The presence of respected bishops at a late-hour meeting has also drawn attention within political and religious circles. It reflects the continued role of faith leaders in Nigeria’s political space, especially in shaping public opinion and influencing grassroots support.

Atiku has, over the years, maintained a pattern of engaging leaders across both Christian and Muslim communities. His approach has often been seen as part of efforts to project unity and national inclusion.
