Nigerian Officials Complicit in Facilitating Terrorism – US Senator Ted Cruz

Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has alleged that officials of the Nigerian government are complicit in enabling violence against Christians across the country.

Speaking on the Senate floor on Tuesday, the lawmaker expressed concern that despite assurances from the government to address insecurity, killings of Christians persist.

He further criticised the continued practice of sharia law in some states, accusing the Federal Government of choosing to “look the other way” while terrorists carry out attacks on innocent citizens.

He said, “more Christians are killed for their faith in Nigeria than anywhere else in the world.

“Since 2009, the Islamic jihadists have murdered more than 50,000 Christians in Nigeria, more than 20,000 churches, schools and religious institutions have been destroyed.

“Scores of Christians and several others were kidnapped. Nigerian officials have, unfortunately, been complicit in facilitating these atrocities. The government looks the other way at the violence.

“The result is unsurprisingly more Islamic jihadists violence”.
