Taiwo Oyedele assumes office as Finance Minister, sets priorities
Taiwo Oyedele has assumed office as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.
Oyedele’s assumption of office followed the handover from his predecessor, Wale Edun who resigned the position on health grounds.
In a statement shared on X, after the handover ceremony, Oyedele said he is committed to economic reforms that would place the nation on the desired trajectory.
Noting that Nigeria is currently at a critical juncture, the new minister said, having taken important steps to stabilise the economy, the immediate task before him is to consolidate these gains, deepen ongoing reforms, and ensure they translate into tangible benefits for all Nigerians.
Reeling out some of the strategies his team would be adopting to improve productivity and growth, Oyedele said he aims to create a predictable and investor-friendly environment anchored on policy coherence, consistency, and clarity.
On fiscal discipline and sustainability, the Minister assured that there would be transparent and prudent management of public resources while harmonising revenue administration, broadening the tax base, reducing the burden on the vulnerable population, and supporting economic growth for optimisation and fair taxation.
He also stated that during his tenure, the Federal Government will align efforts across all tiers and institutions to maximise policy impact for stronger coordination.
On public Policy Private Partnership (PPPP), Oyedele reaffirmed his committment to deepening collaboration with the private sector and other key stakeholders for data-driven policy design, co-implementation, and feedback for continuous improvement.
“Good policy design alone is not enough, success will be defined by execution. We are committed to disciplined implementation, accountability, and measurable results.
“I look forward to working with colleagues across government, the private sector, and all Nigerians as we move from reform to result, accelerate growth and build a more stable, inclusive, and prosperous economy,” the Minister stated.
