Wabara-led PDP BoT assumes duty after Supreme Court ruling
Hours after the Supreme Court ruling on the leadership challenges faced by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Adolphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees (BoT) has assumed duty at the party’s national level.
Wabara, in a statement on Thursday said the BoT assumed national leadership of the party in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended).
As the chairman of the BoT, Wabara explained that this intervention is to prevent any form leadership vacuum at the party’s national level.
“Sadly, the Supreme Court, today delivered an unpleasant judgment against our party in which it pronounced an invalidation of the 15th to 16th November 2025 National Convention of the PDP held in Ibadan, Oyo State, which produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee of our Party.
“While the Supreme Court invalidated the Ibadan Convention, it also in a unanimous decision of the five justices on the panel, upheld the suspension of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Hon. Umar Bature, Kamaldeen Ajibade as National Secretary, National Organising Secretary and National Legal Adviser respectively from the Party,” Wabara said.
Explaining the implication of the court’s decision, the former Senate President said all actions taken by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Honourable Umar Bature and Kamaldeen Ajibade including the appointment of Abdulrahman Mohammed as Acting National Chairman, the composition of the National Caretaker Working Committee and the conduct and outcome of the March 29, 2026 Convention in Abuja are illegal, null and ab initio void.
He also noted that the invalidation of both the Mohammed-led and the Turaki-led Working Committees directly places the statutory onus of leadership of the PDP on the shoulders of the BoT which is the second-highest organ of the Party.
This, he said, is in pursuance of the express and unambiguous provision of Section 32(5) of the PDP Constitution 2017 (as amended).
Wabara assured that the BoT will work assiduously to foster reconciliation among party members and ensure the PDP is returned to good political health.
He also disclosed that an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting will be summoned to appoint an interim National Working Committee (NWC) in order to prepare the party for the 2027 general elections among others.
In addition, all staff of the PDP have been directed to resume duty at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja under the leadership of the BoT and in anticipation of the appointment of the Interim NWC.
