2027: Adelabu Rallies APC Ward Executives Ahead of Oyo Governorship Race

Former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State for the 2027 election, Adebayo Adelabu, on Wednesday met with APC ward executives from the 33 local government areas of the state as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots mobilisation.
Addressing the party executives at Jogor Centre, Liberty Road, Ibadan, Adelabu said rebuilding the APC and reclaiming power in 2027 would depend heavily on strengthening the party’s grassroots structure.
He described grassroots members as “the pillars of the party” and essential to the success of any government, stressing that meaningful development cannot be achieved without active participation from people at the community level.
Adelabu, who recently resigned from the Federal Government to pursue his governorship ambition, had on Tuesday met with members of the APC State Executive Council, where he formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking at the APC secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, the former minister expressed confidence in securing the party’s ticket and winning the election, while rejecting attempts to impose a consensus candidate.
He said the visit was to officially inform the party leadership of his ambition and reaffirm his loyalty to the APC and commitment to Oyo State’s development.
His declaration comes amid endorsements of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, by some APC leaders as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship race.
Speaking further on Wednesday, Adelabu emphasised that ward executives remain the closest link between the party and the people, noting that their contributions to policymaking and political mobilisation are crucial.
“Sustainable progress in this state must begin from the communities, where the real impact of governance is felt. My vision for 2027 goes beyond winning an election but focuses on inclusive development rooted in grassroots engagement,” he said.
“I can’t do it alone. I need your support in the fulfilment of my gubernatorial ambition. I won’t disappoint you and the people of the state if elected governor in 2027,” Adelabu added.
He urged party leaders across the local governments to remain united and committed to the ideals of the APC, stressing that victory in 2027 would largely depend on effective mobilisation at the ward level.
“Let me assure you that I will continue to engage you regularly and carry you along in all party activities. Your support will be central to my campaign and governance agenda if I emerge as the party’s candidate and governor in 2027,” he said.
Adelabu also promised to prioritise the welfare of party members and involve them in decision-making if elected.
In his remarks, APC leader from Akinyele Local Government, Isiaka Alimi, praised Adelabu for his loyalty and commitment to the party, urging members and residents of the state to support his governorship ambition.
Similarly, a party leader from Ibadan North Local Government, Wale Sanusi, appealed to party faithful to rally behind Adelabu, expressing confidence that he would not disappoint the people if elected governor in 2027.
