2023 Labour Party Delta guber candidate Pela joins NDC

The 2023 Delta State gubernatorial candidate for the Labour Party, Ken Pela has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Pela disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, May 8, 2026.

The former governorship candidate said he has been inundated with calls over his plans ahead of the 2027 polls and has deemed it necessary to address the concerns.

He revealed that he had initially stepped back from public engagement to reflect, recalibrate and make necessary decisions for the next phase of the Vision for a Better Delta ahead of 2027.

“Like millions of Nigerians, I have remained inspired by Peter Obi’s consistent message around accountability, responsible leadership, and national transformation.

“So when he declared a new political direction with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at the end of last year, I joined that journey early and publicly in Asaba on January 7th out of conviction and belief in the broader movement for a New Nigeria,” Pela said.

He said, as events unfolded and the leadership crisis within the ADC emerged, he decided to join the NDC.

“Today, I am encouraged that many within the broader movement for a New Nigeria have also found alignment within the NDC. For me, that alignment is not about political validation, but about strengthening the collective possibility of building the Nigeria and Delta State our people deserve.

“At this critical moment in Delta’s history, I remain convinced that our state needs a new generation of courageous, competent, and people-centred leadership capable of translating hope into measurable progress and meaningful development for our people,” Pela added.
