“Notorious bandits learned from Evans the kidnapper” – Sheikh Gumi
Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has alleged that bandits operating in various communities in the Northern region learned their acts from the billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike.
Onwuamadike popularly known as “Evans the kidnapper” was arrested and convicted for masterminding several high-profile kidnapping cases across the country.
The cleric said Evans began his kidnapping career long before the bandits.
He made the claim while reacting to reports of the discovery of illegal arms manufacturing sites in Vom, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
“Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike (commonly called “Evans”) – was the most infamous kidnapper in Nigeria’s history, especially in Lagos,” Gumi wrote on Facebook.
According to him, the billionaire kidnapper became a model for the bandits who had to copy his style and tactics of criminality.
“He targeted wealthy individuals and demanded huge ransoms before his arrest in 2017. From him others copy,” Gumi noted.
Recall that troops of Operation Enduring Peace had uncovered illegal arms manufacturing facilities in Plateau State, allegedly linked to suspected Berom militia members.
The suspects are accused of producing weapons used in attacks and killings across the state.
During the raid, security operatives recovered multiple fabricated AK-47 rifles, empty magazines, unfinished rifle parts (skeletons), and other weaponry.
This operation highlights ongoing efforts to dismantle local arms production networks fueling insecurity in the region.
