2027: Ndume Emerges APC Consensus Candidate for Borno South Senate Seat

Former Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, has emerged as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Borno South Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ndume confirmed this in a statement on Monday after he was returned unopposed through an affirmation process held at the APC primary venue in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The development followed the voluntary withdrawal of his main challenger, Abdullahi Askira, from the race last month, paving the way for Ndume’s emergence as the consensus candidate.

Reports indicate that Askira stepped down after consultations and appeals from party stakeholders within the senatorial district.

If Ndume wins the 2027 election, he will return to the National Assembly for a fifth term.

Reacting to his emergence, Ndume expressed appreciation to APC stakeholders in Borno South, delegates, and party members for their support and confidence in him.

He also commended his former rival, Askira, for stepping down in line with the advice of party elders.

“I want to thank our elders in the Borno South Senatorial District for their unwavering support for me.

“I want to reassure them that I will continue to promote their interest at all times.

“I must not fail to commend Honourable Askira, who listened to the persuasions and appeals of the party leaders and took the decision to drop his aspiration.

“Your loyalty to the party is exemplary,” he said.

Ndume further urged party stakeholders to remain united and continue working as one political family as the country prepares for the general elections.
