Nigeria’s Problem Is Leadership, Not Capacity — Olawepo-Hashim

Former presidential candidate, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has said Nigeria’s current challenges stem more from a decline in patriotic leadership than from a lack of capacity.

He made the remarks on Monday during an interview, where he argued that the country has never been as weak in terms of security and economic stability as it is today.

According to him, Nigeria once demonstrated strong leadership on the continent through its active role in peacekeeping and conflict resolution.

“Nigeria’s problem is a decline of patriotic leadership and not capacity.

“There was a time we deployed troops to Liberia to help end the crisis, and to Sierra Leone to stop brutal killings by rebel groups.

“We also played key roles in peacekeeping efforts in places like Darfur and beyond.

“That was a period of leadership that, despite its shortcomings, showed strong patriotism and positioned Nigeria as a stabilizing force across Africa and beyond.

“Today, it is less about lack of capacity and more about a decline in patriotism and national commitment,” he lamented.
