Gunmen abduct Ekiti local government vice chairman

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have abducted the Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State, Mrs Grace Ogunleye.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road.

According to sources, Ogunleye was ambushed while returning from official duties.

She had earlier visited the Ilejemeje Local Government secretariat before heading towards Ido Ekiti.

Her vehicle was later found abandoned by the roadside. Her whereabouts remain unknown as of press time.

Family members, who pleaded for anonymity, said all attempts to reach her mobile phone have been unsuccessful, as the line has been switched off since the abduction.

The Director of Information and Civic Orientation for Ilejemeje Local Government, Mr Falade Sunday, confirmed the incident.

He said security agencies have been alerted and that efforts to rescue the vice chairman are currently underway.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
