“Tinubu Is Creating Hunger to Win Elections” — Amaechi Claims Ahead of 2027

Former Rivers State governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of allegedly worsening hardship in the country to gain political advantage ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi made the remark during an interview on Arise News while speaking on the growing economic difficulties facing Nigerians under the current administration.

According to him, the worsening hunger and rising cost of living are being used as tools to influence voters during elections.

“The President is creating hunger as a way of manipulating voters,” Amaechi said during the interview.

The former minister, who is now seeking the presidency under the African Democratic Congress, alleged that politicians often take advantage of poverty by distributing food items during elections instead of addressing the root causes of economic hardship.

Amaechi claimed that despite the hardship across the country, political actors would still rely on temporary relief materials to secure votes during the next election cycle.

He said politicians would likely move around communities with bags of rice and other food items on election day, but noted that such gestures would not solve the country’s economic problems.
