Former deputy governor wins ADC governorship ticket in Zamfara

Former deputy governor of Zamfara, Mahdi Aliyu Gusau has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election in the state.

Gusau secured the party’s ticket after defeating two other aspirants in the governorship primary election conducted across the state.

Namadi Musa, chairman of the election committee announced the results of the exercise, revealing that Gusau polled 35,665 votes to clinch the nomination.

Abdul’mutallab Ahmed Mohammed came second with 15,922 votes, while Shehu Ahmed Musa secured 7,642 votes.

Musa described the exercise as peaceful, free and transparent, adding that the successful conduct of the governorship, senatorial and House of Representatives primaries reflected growing unity within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The ADC also announced candidates for the senatorial elections in the state. Shehu Rafi emerged candidate for Zamfara north, while Atiku Abubakar Saleh secured the ticket for Zamfara west.

The party also announced Mika’ila as candidate for Zamfara central senatorial district. In the House of Representatives primaries, the ADC produced candidates for six federal constituencies in the state.

Nura Mohammed emerged candidate for Zurmi/Shinkafi federal constituency, while Bashir Abubakar secured the ticket for Kaura Namoda/Birnin Magaji.

Mohammed Mustapha emerged candidate for Bakura/Maradun, while Umar Faru won the ticket for Gummi/Bukkuyum federal constituency.

The party also announced Isiaka Ibrahim Anka for Anka/Mafara and Abubakar Abdullahi for Gusau/Tsafe federal constituency.

The ADC said no candidate emerged for Maru/Bungudu federal constituency because no aspirant participated in the primary election.

Shehu Maishanu thanked party members and stakeholders for the peaceful conduct of the primaries and urged members to remain united ahead of the 2027 election.
