NDC Holds Nationwide Primaries Today, Set to Affirm Obi as Presidential Candidate

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to conduct its Presidential, National Assembly, Governorship, and State Assembly primaries nationwide today.
According to reports, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last general election, who is now the sole presidential aspirant of the NDC, is expected to be officially affirmed by delegates across the states.
In a joint statement issued by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, and National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, the party said the primaries were shifted to today due to the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and the accompanying public holidays, which created transportation and logistical difficulties.
The statement explained that the presidential primary would be conducted through affirmation, while the National Assembly, State Assembly, and governorship primaries would involve both direct primaries and affirmations.
According to the party leadership, the various committees handling the exercises will collate and process the results before forwarding them to the National Headquarters, where the National Working Committee will announce the final outcomes.
The statement also warned that no state executive or committee has the authority to announce results independently.
Meanwhile, Daily Trust gathered that most aspirants contesting Senate and House of Representatives seats are expected to emerge through affirmation by delegates in their respective states.
