Two WAEC students die in Port Harcourt road accident

Two female students have been killed in a road accident in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, while returning from their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The students died alongside a commercial motorcyclist (okada rider) when the motorcycle they were riding collided with a moving truck on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, along Choba Bridge on the East-West Road.

Eyewitnesses said the students had just finished writing their exams at Odoha Community Secondary School in Emohua Local Government Area.

He also added that the examination centre is roughly 30 minutes from the scene of the accident.

“The students were coming back from Odoha Community Secondary School, Emohua LGA, after writing the WAEC exams,” an eyewitness said.

“It happened today. Three people died: one okada rider and two WAEC female students.”

Choba is the host community to the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).

Several other people at the scene sustained injuries and were rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital for treatment.
