Ex-Kano Deputy Gov Gwarzo Files Defamation Petition Against Gov Yusuf’s Aide

Former Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has petitioned the Kano State Commissioner of Police, accusing the Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor, Sunusi Bature, of defamation.

The petition, dated June 17, 2026, was submitted through Gwarzo’s lawyer, Barrister Nazifi Yusuf Gorondutse.

According to the petition, Bature allegedly made defamatory remarks against the former deputy governor during a political gathering held on June 13, 2026.

The petition claimed that Bature linked Gwarzo to the receipt of what was described as “Awalaja” from the chairmen of the 44 local government areas in Kano State.

It further alleged that a video of the speech was subsequently circulated on social media, causing damage to Gwarzo’s reputation.

The former deputy governor, through his counsel, urged the police to investigate the allegations and take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
