Kwara Govt Suspends School Graduation Ceremonies Over Security Concerns
The Kwara State Government has suspended all public and private schools from organising graduation, valedictory and other end-of-session ceremonies across the state.
The directive was contained in a letter signed by the Director of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Bunmi Osanupin, on behalf of the Commissioner for Education, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe.
Addressed to the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Raheem Adaramaja, the letter was made available to journalists in Ilorin on Friday.
According to the ministry, the decision was prompted by the prevailing security situation in the state and the need to ensure safety, order and discipline within school environments.
The government directed all school proprietors, principals, headteachers and administrators to comply strictly with the order.
“All school proprietors, principals, headteachers and administrators are required to ensure strict compliance with this directive,” the letter stated.
It warned that any school found violating the directive would face appropriate sanctions in line with existing regulations.
“Any school found to be in violation of this directive shall be liable to appropriate sanctions in accordance with existing regulations.
“By this notice, all concerned are advised to be guided accordingly,” the letter added.
