Kwankwaso’s NDC absent as APC retains Kano Federal Constituency seat with over 35,000 votes

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has retained the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat in Kano state after Rabiu Shuaibu secured a landslide victory in Saturday’s by-election.

Professor Umar Sani, returning officer for the poll, announced the result on Saturday, June 20th after voting ended in the area.

He said Shuaibu polled 35,356 votes to defeat his opponents and emerge winner of the contest.

Lawal Garba Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) garnered 268 votes, while Abubakar Yahya Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP) secured 98 votes.

Notably absent from the contest was the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), the party recently adopted by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Kano governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

Declaring the result, Professor Sani said the APC candidate met all legal requirements for election.

“That Rabiu Shuaibu of APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” he said.
