Turaki faction of PDP hails Gov Nwifuru for calling out Wike

The Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has applauded Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for publicly condemning the alleged anti-party activities and political interference of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The commendation for that governor was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, June 25, 2026, by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.

The party described Governor Nwifuru’s recent caution to the FCT Minister as a bold and necessary intervention against what it termed “meddlesomeness” in the political affairs of states outside Wike’s official jurisdiction.

“The Peoples Democratic Party commends the Governor of Ebonyi State… for calling out and condemning the anti-party activities and political blackmail of the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike,” Ememobong said.

Governor Nwifuru had earlier warned Wike to desist from stoking political crisis in Ebonyi State through what the PDP described as “political misinformation, the President’s name, and anti-party gimmicks.”

The PDP, citing past incidents, stated that Wike, while serving as governor of Rivers State, played a prominent role in the exit of former Rivers Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi from the PDP.

It also highlighted a similar criticism once levelled against Wike by Nwifuru’s predecessor, Engr. David Umahi, who reportedly accused the former Rivers governor of focusing primarily on “the crude accumulation and conversion of public wealth” — an allegation the statement claimed Wike has never refuted.

Ememobong emphasised the PDP’s identity as an opposition party while also distancing it from any perceived alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government.

“We reiterate that the Peoples Democratic Party, as an opposition party, is not and cannot be in an alliance with the ruling party.

“We are a principled political party and will continue to insist on best practices in political contests in a bid to help achieve democratic consolidation in our country,” the statement said.

The party also reaffirmed its support for Mr Eze Alexander as the authentic PDP candidate in the Ebonyi governorship race.

It described Alexander as “an opposition candidate, not a ruling party-aligned candidate.”

The party further called on Nigerians, other state governors and party leaders to support Nwifuru and to resist what it described as Wike’s attempts to “put fire” in various states.
