Makinde Extends Oyo Curfew Over Abduction of School Children, Teachers

Governor Seyi Makinde has extended the curfew imposed across 10 local government areas in Oyo State following the abduction of school children and teachers in the state.

The extension was announced on Thursday through a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde, and made available to POLITICS NIGERIA by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju.

The fresh directive means residents in the affected areas will remain under restrictions for an additional 24 hours as security agencies intensify efforts to rescue the kidnapped victims.

POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that Governor Makinde had imposed a 48-hour curfew in communities surrounding the Old Oyo National Park after growing security concerns in the area.

The decision followed reports that the abducted students and teachers were being held within the forest region around the park, an area that has increasingly raised concerns among residents due to rising criminal activities.

With the latest extension, the curfew will now remain in force until Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Authorities believe the measure is necessary to strengthen ongoing security operations and restrict movements that could hinder rescue efforts.

The affected local government areas include Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West and Saki East.

Others are Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba local government areas.

Residents in these areas have been urged to remain calm, comply fully with security directives, and cooperate with law enforcement personnel carrying out operations in the region.

The state government also reassured residents that efforts are ongoing to secure the safe release of the victims and restore normalcy in the affected communities.
