‘I Beat You Guys’ – Davido Tells Wike in Abuja Following Osun Election
Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has told Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, that he defeated his camp, following the victory of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in the August 15 governorship election.
Davido made the remark during a meeting between Governor Adeleke and Wike in Abuja on Thursday, shortly after the governor’s separate meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa.
In a video from the visit, Davido appeared to boast about the outcome of the Osun election as he addressed Wike.
“I beat you guys. I beat APC,” the singer said.
Wike, however, immediately challenged Davido’s claim and asked whether the singer had personally defeated him in the election.
According to the video, Davido playfully conceded, and later on prostrated before Wike while laughing.
The two men later exchanged hugs.
Wike was then heard adding, “You dey hear am.”
The encounter took place when Governor Adeleke visited Wike in Abuja as part of his engagements following his re-election as Osun governor.
A photograph of the meeting was shared on X by Lere Olayinka, Wike’s media aide, showing Adeleke and the FCT minister shaking hands while holding the governor’s certificate of return.
Olayinka captioned the photograph, “Governor Ademola Adeleke visits the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.”

The meeting with Wike came hours after Adeleke met Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where he presented his certificate of return and thanked the President over the conduct of the election.
Adeleke arrived at the Villa at about 5:25pm in a navy blue traditional outfit and was accompanied by National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
He was later joined by several Osun officials, including the Director-General of his Campaign Council, Senator Lere Oyewumi; a member of the council, Sunday Bisi; his Chief of Staff, Akinleye Kazeem; and Bamidele Salam, who represents Ede North, Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Adeleke won the Osun election with 511,067 votes, defeating the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
The governor won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11. Accord Party candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
The election recorded 1,010,684 accredited voters from 2,339,544 registered voters, with 1,005,800 votes cast. The Independent National Electoral Commission declared 985,097 votes valid and rejected 20,721 ballots.
Davido had closely followed the election and openly commented on developments surrounding the poll and the collation of results.
At one point during the election, the singer posted a message directed at his uncle, urging him to stop supporting presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 election.

“No more supporting any presidential candidate @AAdeleke_01 make we Dey our Dey!!!” Davido wrote in the post, which was later deleted.
He was also reported to have removed another post directed at Tinubu, which read, “U no try @officialABAT.”
The posts attracted attention because Governor Adeleke had publicly endorsed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, despite contesting the Osun governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party.
Following his victory, Adeleke maintained his support for the President and praised Tinubu for what he described as his role in ensuring a credible election.
“At this point, I must deeply appreciate Mr President, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his strong support for a free and fair election. Mr President is a son of Osun State, and I hereby reaffirm my earlier endorsement of him for a second term in the 2027 presidential election,” Adeleke said in his acceptance speech.
The governor later explained that his support for Tinubu was not based on a political agreement between them.
“No, I did not reach an agreement with Mr President,” Adeleke said in an interview with Channels Television.
He explained that his position was influenced by Tinubu’s identity as a Yoruba man and the projects being carried out by his administration.
“My support is just based on Mr President being a Yoruba man and his projects. And I believe that all the federal roads that he has started, I want to encourage him not to forget Osun too,” he said.
Adeleke also appealed to the President to extend federal infrastructure projects to Osun, particularly roads connecting the state to other parts of the country.

“I feel like, since a Yoruba man has won for the first time, maybe I will give him another chance to develop his reforms,” he added.
The governor further said he was willing to work with political actors supporting Tinubu, regardless of their political affiliations.
“As long as they say, ‘I’m doing it for Mr President,’ I don’t mind. I will work with them,” Adeleke said.
Despite his support for Tinubu, Adeleke has ruled out joining the APC for now.
“As I’m talking to you right now, I’m not even thinking about that. It’s not on my agenda,” he said.
Adeleke also attributed part of his appreciation for Tinubu to the President’s intervention during the period when the EFCC restricted access to one of the Osun State Government’s accounts.
The EFCC had placed a Post No Debit restriction on the account as part of an investigation into the handling of about N11 billion, including Ecology Funds, Intervention Funds and allocations received through the Federation Account Allocation Committee.
The commission also alleged that unusual transfers had been made from the account to several corporate accounts.
After the election, Adeleke said Tinubu contacted him personally and indicated that the issue had been resolved.
“What else do I want? I’ve instructed my Attorney General to drop it. Mr President has done well; he called me. What more do I want?” Adeleke said.
