JAMB Announces Final Date on Pending Admission Offers
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended to September 30, 2026, the deadline for candidates with outstanding admission offers dating back to 2021 to accept or reject the offers.
Politics Nigeria reports that the Board, which previously set August 31 as the deadline, said the additional one-month window would be the final opportunity for affected candidates to regularise their admission status.
JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, announced the extension in a statement on Saturday, warning that there would be no further extension after September 30.
According to the Board, any admission offer from 2021 to date that remains neither accepted nor rejected at the expiration of the new deadline will automatically be reverted to “Not Admitted” in its records.
The directive covers outstanding regular admission offers as well as those issued through the Centralised University Information Admission (CUIIA) platform.
JAMB urged affected candidates to take action immediately rather than wait until the deadline, noting that those who accept their offers would be able to proceed with printing and obtaining their admission letters.
Candidates who no longer intend to take up their previous admission offers, the Board said, should reject them, after which their admission status would be changed to “Not Admitted”.
The Board explained that the exercise was necessary to reconcile its national admission database and ensure that candidates’ records accurately reflect their current admission status.
JAMB also addressed cases involving candidates whose circumstances have changed since they received their earlier offers.
It said candidates who were offered admission into institutions they no longer attend, or who are currently studying programmes different from those covered by their previous offers, could accept the outstanding admission and subsequently seek the appropriate correction or deletion where necessary.
Similarly, candidates already pursuing a second degree but still holding an unaccepted earlier admission offer may reject the outstanding offer and continue with their current programmes.
The Board further clarified that candidates who have secured admission during the ongoing 2026 admission exercise but still have older unaccepted offers can reject the previous offers without affecting their 2026 admissions.
JAMB said the move was aimed at eliminating long-standing uncertainties and ensuring that its records remain current and reliable.
It stressed that accurate admission records were essential to maintaining the integrity of the country’s admission system.
The Board therefore advised all candidates affected by the directive to review their admission status and make the necessary decision before September 30.
JAMB reiterated that the September 30 deadline is final, warning that failure to accept or reject an outstanding offer before then would result in the offer being invalidated and the candidate’s record permanently reverted to “Not Admitted”.
Meanwhile, the board has earlier explained three major reasons candidates may not find their names on the matriculation list.
It said the most common is failure to accept admission on JAMB CAPS or having an admission status marked “not admitted.” Candidates with such status were advised to return to their institutions for admission processing.
JAMB also said candidates may be missing because their institutions have not forwarded verified matriculation details.
Another reason is failure to print the original JAMB result slip and admission letter. Affected candidates were advised to visit JAMB offices or approved CBT centres to print the required documents.
