Look For Another Job – Fayose Reacts To Wike’s Vow To Resign

Isaac Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose, has challenged the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to prepare for life outside government after the 2027 presidential election.

Fayose was reacting to Wike’s declaration that he would resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to win the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State in the election.

Wike made the declaration on Wednesday while addressing the leadership and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja.

The minister said he would submit his resignation letter on January 17, a day after the January 16, 2027 presidential election, if Tinubu loses the FCT.

Politics Nigeria reports that the declaration has generated reactions on social media, with some users alleging that the statement suggested an intention to influence the outcome of the election.

However, Fayose, in a post on his Facebook page on Thursday, said Tinubu would lose both the FCT and Rivers State to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, if the election is conducted freely and fairly.

He argued that Obi, who won the FCT in the 2023 presidential election, would increase his support in the territory in 2027.

Fayose also dismissed Wike’s confidence in Tinubu’s chances in Rivers State, insisting that the state would equally favour Obi.

“Wike, I’m telling you that Abuja is Obi. We won the last time, and this time, we will win more. APC will not get 25 percent in Abuja.

“Rivers State is also Obi. You are not going anywhere. Tinubu is tired; he needs to be retired so that Nigeria can move forward. The president is not even the one running the country; he just got back.

“We are winning Abuja and Rivers. Don’t let them hypnotise you by threatening that they have the power to rig. All power belongs to God.

“When they try to rig, we will all see. But if it’s free and fair, they can’t get 21 percent. Wike, Abuja and Rivers are not yours. Look for another job,” he said.

Fayose further alleged that some individuals were backing Tinubu’s continued stay in office for their personal benefit, saying, “It is time to take our country back.”

Meanwhile, the APC governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, has expressed confidence that the party will face no serious opposition in the 2027 governorship election.

Adeola made the claim at an APC Interfaith Prayer and Praise Concert held at the Ake Palace Ground in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The senator said opposition parties in the state were grappling with internal challenges and described them as “partyless.”

He predicted that the APC would secure victory in the presidential, governorship and National Assembly elections in the state.

“There will be nobody, because they are all partyless. They are running helter-skelter to rectify their shortcomings, but God has spoken that He is going to give us victory without a fight,” Adeola said.

He added that the expected presidential victory on January 16, 2027, would be followed by his emergence as governor in the February 6 governorship election.

“That same God that will give us victory on January 16 will also support me to become the 17th Executive Governor of Ogun State.

“God will give us victory and clear our path without a fight, because there will be nobody contesting against us. God has started that already. On February 6, 2027, there will be nobody, because they are all partyless,” he said.

Adeola also expressed confidence in Tinubu’s re-election bid and predicted victory for APC candidates contesting National Assembly seats in Ogun State.

He urged party members to remain active in the party’s activities, saying the prayers offered at the gathering would translate into electoral victories.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state, who also spoke at the event, said the gathering was aimed at seeking divine guidance and committing the party’s political activities ahead of the 2027 elections to God.

Abiodun recalled the challenges surrounding his political journey during the 2019 governorship election, describing his emergence as governor as a testimony of divine intervention.

“We have gathered here to seek the Almighty’s face and commit our journey of 2027 into His hands.

“Today, we have come here to put God first, to pray, dance and sing. I am very confident and without a doubt that our heart’s desires shall be granted to the men of God who have prayed for us,” he said.

The governor said the political circumstances surrounding the 2019 election had been difficult but expressed confidence that the same divine intervention would guide the state through another transition.

“I recall how the journey was in 2018. When we started, it was not like this at all; it was tough. But God has used me as a testimony.

“The God of 2018 is still around, and He will continue to allow us to embark on a smooth transition from a sitting governor to the incoming governor,” Abiodun said.
