Anambra Govt Declares Peter Obi, NDC a Threat to APGA Ahead of 2027
The Anambra State Government has warned members and supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) against supporting Peter Obi and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2027 general elections.
The state government described Obi and the NDC as a threat to the survival of APGA, urging party supporters to protect what it called their political home.
Politics Nigeria reports that the warning was contained in a statement posted on the government’s official X account on Monday under the title, “A Betrayal Alert for Ndi APGA”.
The government alleged that Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and now the presidential candidate of the NDC, had been working against APGA since leaving the party in 2014.
It specifically called on APGA supporters not to allow the former governor to return to the state’s political space through the NDC.
“A vote for Peter Obi and the NDC is a vote to kill APGA,” the state government said.
It added: “Since 2014, Obi has had one mission: to destroy the party that made him. In 2025, while President Tinubu stood with APGA, Obi backed opposition to bury us.
“Do not be deceived by a man who abandoned his own house. Anambra is APGA. Ndi APGA, defend your home. Resist the NDC.”
The statement marks another escalation in the political differences between Obi and the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Obi governed Anambra for eight years before leaving office in March 2014. He initially came to power on the platform of APGA and became one of the party’s most prominent political figures in the state.
He later left APGA in October 2014 and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His political career took another turn in 2022 when he resigned from the PDP and joined the Labour Party to contest the 2023 presidential election.
Obi finished third in the election behind Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The former Anambra governor subsequently left the Labour Party in December 2025 and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Obi and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, later joined forces under the NDC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
APGA currently controls the state government, with Soludo serving as governor.
The party has also produced successive governors of the state, including Obi and Willie Obiano.
The latest warning from the state government comes amid thr growing disagreement between Soludo’s administration and Obi.
The dispute has recently centred on the financial position Obi left behind when he handed over power in 2014.
The controversy became public in September after Anambra State Commissioner for Finance, Izuchukwu Okafor, said the state was still servicing loans obtained by previous administrations.
The claim drew a response from Obi, who rejected the suggestion that he left the state with outstanding debts.
Obi maintained that his administration left office without owing salaries, pensions or contractors.
He also said his government left N2.1 billion in ecological funds for the state.
The Soludo administration subsequently challenged some of the former governor’s claims.
Anambra Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Law Mefor, said the state inherited $123.77 million in external debt from the Obi administration.
Mefor also questioned the former governor’s claim regarding the N2.1 billion ecological funds, saying there was no evidence that the money was kept in First Bank as claimed.
