VIDEO: Tinubu Departs Abuja For Makkah
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for Makkah, Saudi Arabia, to perform Umrah, an Islamic spiritual pilgrimage that involves prayers and other religious rites in the holy city.
The President’s departure comes a day after the Presidency announced his planned trip.
According to the government, the visit would provide an opportunity for spiritual reflection, devotion and prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability and continued progress.
During his stay in Makkah, Tinubu is expected to perform the religious rites associated with Umrah and seek Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its citizens.
The spiritual exercise is expected to provide the President with an opportunity to pray for the country amid ongoing national challenges and efforts to promote peace, security, economic growth and national unity.
According to an earlier statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu was scheduled to depart Abuja on Thursday for the religious exercise.
Before leaving the country, the President was also scheduled to commission equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force to strengthen its operational capabilities.
Onanuga said the commissioning would take place at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja before Tinubu’s departure for Saudi Arabia.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the spiritual exercise.
