Fubara Promises to Deliver 3 Million Votes for Tinubu in Rivers
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has promised to deliver no fewer than three million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Fubara made the pledge on Saturday, November 7, while addressing Tinubu at the Rainbow Coalition Presidential Campaign Rally held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The governor attributed the commitment to the political leadership of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who is coordinating the political activities of the Rainbow Coalition in the state.
Speaking at the rally, Fubara declared that Rivers State would work towards securing massive electoral support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
“Under the guidance and leadership of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, we will deliver not less than three million votes for you,” the governor told the President.
Fubara also disclosed that the political arrangement in Rivers State involved a coalition between members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Let me also announce that in Rivers State, we are doing a Rainbow Coalition (APC and PDP),” he said.
The governor’s declaration further highlights the political alliance between him and Wike following their reconciliation after months of political disagreements that plunged the state into a prolonged leadership crisis.
Fubara had previously declared his support for the Wike-led Rainbow Coalition and Tinubu’s re-election bid, urging his supporters to join the political movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Rainbow Coalition was established to bring together political actors from different parties in Rivers State to mobilise support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
Tinubu arrived in Port Harcourt on Saturday after leaving Akwa Ibom State, where he spent Friday commissioning projects executed by Governor Umo Eno’s administration.
The President was received at the Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo International Airport by Vice President Kashim Shettima, several South-South governors, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, and other senior government officials.
The rally was organised by the Rainbow Coalition, with Wike playing host to the President.
Ahead of the visit, the FCT minister had expressed confidence that the rally would attract more than 70,000 supporters, insisting that preparations had been concluded to ensure a successful event.
Speaking during an inspection of the stadium on Friday, Wike said Rivers residents were enthusiastic about receiving the President.
“We are highly elated to receive Mr President. Rivers people are very enthusiastic to receive him tomorrow. That is why we have come here to see how prepared we are,” he said.
He also described the visit as Tinubu’s first trip to Rivers State since he became President in May 2023, recalling that the President had previously visited the state as President-elect to commission projects.
The Rivers rally followed Tinubu’s engagements in Akwa Ibom State, where he commissioned the Victor Attah International Airport and other projects executed by the Umo Eno administration.
During his visit to Akwa Ibom, Tinubu recalled his years working in the state as an auditor with Mobil before venturing into politics.
“This is a homecoming for me. I was here in Akwa Ibom as a Mobil auditor. We built Ibeno, developed Eket, did what we had to do,” the President said.
He also praised Governor Eno for completing the airport project, describing the achievement as the fulfilment of a long-standing vision.
