4 reasons why Buhari campaigning for Tinubu could be an own goal – Odinkalu

Chidi Odinkalu, a former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), on Tuesday, said President Muhammadu Buhari campaigning for the presidential flag-bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, could eventually turn out to be damaging to the incumbent Nigerian leader’s interests.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that one of the reasons the Professor listed is the “campaign chemistry” between Messrs Tinubu and Buhari which he insinuated lacks enthusiasm.

He wrote on his known Twitter handle: “4 reasons why @Mbuhari campaigning for @officialABAT could prove to be an #owngoal:

“1. Optics: When #Buhari, who has spent over 25% of his tenure doing #MedicalTourism shows up looking and sounding more vigorous than the candidate, he makes #ABAT’s health an issue;

“2. @OfficialAPCNg’s Record: #ABAT’s best route is to distance himself from #Buhari. When he has Buhari stumping for him, he owns Buhari’s record and all that comes with it.

“3. Off-Script: #Buhari is clearly committed to his message of #CredibleElections and credible candidates. He is not #OnMessage and the misalignment between him and #ABAT cannot be starker. Every time he opens his mouth on the stump, he gives opponents stuff to skewer #ABAT with.

“4. Campaign Chemistry: The failure of campaign chemistry between the candidate & his reluctant surrogate is evident. @Mbuhari is not keen to hide that he does not want to be there. He is neither effusive nor full-throated.

“Finally…. It’s the candidate’s campaign & he’s entitled decide whom he enlists. The fact that the candidate appears desperate to bask in the non-allure of possibly the most dreadful presidential record in post-Independence #Nigeria says all there abt the state of his campaign

“#RememberThis: Officially 80, @MBuhari is supposedly 10 yrs older than @officialABAT, who is officially 70. But when he stands beside #ABAT, the candidate does not come off well in the bio-kinetic comparisons.”
