The Rivers State House of Assembly has withdrawn impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In the notice of withdrawal read on the house floor, the lawmakers said the decision was made out of respect for the President.
This follows the sitting by about twenty-six lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike at the House of Assembly Complex on Wednesday morning.
Recall that on Monday, President Bola Tinubu brokered a peace deal between the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
The tension in the state allegedly stems from a power struggle between the governor and Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The rift led to a split in the House of Assembly, with 27 lawmakers crossing party lines to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). It led to parallel sittings, an impeachment attempt on the governor, and even the demolition of the Assembly complex.
Monday’s meeting at the Aso Villa was attended by both Wike and Fubara. In the presence of President Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, both sides committed to withdrawing all court cases, among other concessions.
The lawmakers had on the 30th of October 2023, commenced impeachment proceedings on the governor, less than 24 hours after the house assembly complex was attacked.

I pity his excellency Fubara. How can a lamb be surrounded by tigers and you tell me that there is peace?
As soon as the tigers get hungry they will bare their fangs.
War is better than this lopsided peace of the graveyard.
The Commissioners that resigned must not be in his cabinet. The 26 law breakers or makers should lose their seats. That’s the constitution and not presidents decision.
In fact, the president is acting ultra vires, unconstitutional and undemocratic.
Is he greater than the constitution he swore to defend?
This group of people are not assembly members since the day they defected from there party PDP to APC., so they lack the powers to impeach or withdraw any impeachment notice.
Don’t mind them oo the 25 must go first
This is the worst political battle in Rivers State. Fubara should be very careful because he is an innocent lamb among wolves.
