JUST IN: APC Reacts to Supreme Court Rulings on Gubernatorial Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the Supreme Court’s decisions on eight state governorship election petitions delivered today.

The party, in a statement on Friday, has called for peace and slammed its main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for a “senseless, irresponsible, reckless and unjustified attacks it mounted against the Judiciary throughout this electoral cycle.”

The rulings today came after months of legal battles following the 2023 elections. While the party celebrated victories in Lagos, Ebonyi, and Cross River states, it faced setbacks in Kano, Zamfara, Bauchi, Plateau, and Abia.

“We welcome the Supreme Court decisions with equanimity,” party spokesperson Felix Morka said. “These final and binding decisions affirm the authority, vibrancy, and independence of the Judiciary.”

The APC said it has a longstanding stance of respecting the judicial process, in contrast to the PDP’s alleged criticism of earlier unfavourable rulings. “The decisions today rebuke those political figures who denigrated the courts,” Morka said. “The PDP, if it possesses any shred of decency, should apologize to the Judiciary for its irresponsible attacks throughout this electoral cycle.”

“We congratulate the winners, particularly our Governors, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and Bassey Otu of Cross River State, and wish them the very best as they continue to serve their states and country. We urge everyone to remain calm and continue to maintain the peace,” the party added.

  1. Those attacks were proactive measures that blocked APC from manipulation the judges and put the judges on toes to render justice without fear or favour unlike the judges of tribunals and appeal courts that used technicalities to disqualify some.
