Gov Otti approves construction of Azumini Seaport, begins talks with China

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti has approved the commencement of a feasibility study for the construction of the Azumini – Obeaku Seaport and Inland Waterways Corridor project in the state.

Otti announced the approval while receiving a delegation from the China Harbour Engineering Company Limited led by Mr Nicolas Liu.

The governor said the company had initially suggested a six to seven-month timeline for the study but he has directed a shorter period to make room for progress acceleration.

“Alongside the study, we will begin the process of securing approvals from the Presidency, Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Blue Economy. I have also encouraged the team to visit the proposed site to assess its viability, given its proximity to the High Sea and the technical requirements such as dredging.

“The project has the potential to transform Abia State’s economy and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s maritime development,” Otti said.

He also noted that with strong commitment, proper funding, and strategic partnerships, the Azumini Sea Port will become a reality

“I thank the team from China Harbour Engineering Company Limited for their presentation and look forward to positive outcomes from the feasibility study,” the governor added.
