Kwankwaso Rejects PRP Claims Over Alleged 2027 Presidential Ticket Request

Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has strongly denied claims by the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, that he and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, sought the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
Responding through the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Kwankwaso dismissed the allegation as an attempt by Baba-Ahmed to attract public attention.

The spokesperson for the movement, Habeeb Saleh Mohammed, said neither Kwankwaso nor Obi demanded the PRP presidential ticket at any time.

Speaking during an interview on DITV Kaduna, Baba-Ahmed had claimed the PRP rejected attempts by both politicians to join the party after allegedly insisting on being handed the presidential ticket without going through internal party competition.

According to him, the discussions collapsed because the PRP insisted that all aspirants must follow the party’s democratic process before being considered for any position.

“Before they joined, they told us they were presidential candidates, meaning they should be given the ticket. We told them no, this is PRP; we do not practise that kind of politics,” Baba-Ahmed said.

However, Mohammed denied the claims, explaining that although the PRP publicly invited Kwankwaso and Obi to join the party, there was never any official meeting where either politician requested an automatic ticket.

“There was no official sitting where my principal or Peter Obi directly requested a ticket,” he said.

Mohammed further questioned Baba-Ahmed’s motive for making the allegation, suggesting the comments were aimed at gaining attention due to the growing political relevance of both Kwankwaso and Obi.

The controversy comes after the two politicians joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress to pursue their presidential ambitions ahead of 2027.

Despite the disagreement, the PRP has maintained that no aspirant would be handed its presidential ticket without following due internal procedures.

Mohammed described Baba-Ahmed’s remarks as baseless and unsubstantiated, insisting that the claim did not even deserve a response.
