“DSS should be afraid, not us” – El-Rufai’s son expresses defiance over father’s detention

Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has expressed defiance over the continued detention of his father by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Mohammed declared that his family harbours no fear over his father’s safety while in the custody of the DSS.

Speaking shortly after the former governor was granted bail by the court, the Kaduna lawmaker insisted that the security agency should be concerned.

He also pushed back against the narrative of uncertainty within the family, emphasising his father’s compliance with the rule of law and a sound health.

“I don’t fear, you know, unlike other people, I am not really fearful of anything.

“Mallam has his bail condition set, he’s in good health, so I don’t know what this whole fear thing is about.”

Further issuing a direct warning to the secret police and its operatives, Mohammed challenged any notion that harm could befall his father while in DSS custody.

He said, “And whoever thinks something would happen to Mallam wrongly, we dare them.”

“So, there is no fear. I am an El-Rufai, there are no fears, okay. Let justice prevail, there are no fears,” he said. “We saw him enter DSS, so if anything happens to him there, they (the DSS) should fear,” Mohammed said.

He concluded with a bold statement on Nigeria’s polity stating, “The country has changed and that’s my opinion.”

The lawmaker’s remarks come as questions continue to arise over the former governor’s health condition and continued detention despite fulfilling his bail conditions.
