BREAKING: NBA Reacts to Shooting of Protesters in Niger State, Vows Action

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has condemned the shooting of protesters in Suleja, Niger State amidst the ongoing demonstration against bad governance in the country.

The legal body has vowed to take action in response to the incident which has led to the loss of lives.

According to reports, security operatives forcefully dispersed a crowd of protesters who had blocked a major road, leaving passengers stranded for hours.

Although the police could not immediately confirm the incident, the NBA said it had confirmed the killings.

The Chairman of the Suleja branch of the association, Abdullahi Liman, has visited the residence of one of the deceased, Yahaya Nda Isah, to gather credible information for further action.

“The national level of the NBA has asked all the branches to constitute monitoring committees in respect of the protest.

“So, we are going around to see what is really happening. I got information that a man was shot dead and I came to the house of the victim (Yahaya Nda Isah) to confirm things for myself and I have seen the corps.

“So, what we are doing now is to gather information in respect of the incident and I will reach out to the national level so that we know what to do next in respect of the issue. This cannot be denied,” he said.

Recall that the NBA promised to provide pro bono legal services for peaceful protesters who get assaulted or intimidated.

The association had directed its 130 branches across the country to monitor the protests.
