Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) has dismissed claims by Tony Okocha, Chairman of the ousted Committee of the Rivers APC, that former Minister, Chibuike Amaechi, will lead a rebellion against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
Okocha had alleged that Amaechi’s loyalists would be positioned to challenge Tinubu, allowing Amaechi to become the APC leader and subsequently use the party to fight the President in 2027.
“There is an intention to throw up Amaechi’s man and then he (Amaechi) becomes the APC leader and then uses the party to fight Mr President in 2027,” he said.
However, Eze has denied these claims, warning Okocha to refrain from using Amaechi’s name to further his own interests.
In a statement released on Sunday, Eze cautioned Okocha against cashing in on Amaechi’s reputation, reminding him that the former Minister is not involved in any plot to oust Tinubu.
Eze argued that the current administration’s failures, including “administrative ineptitude, policy summersaults, and multi-layer corruption,” would be enough to ensure Tinubu’s defeat in 2027, without Amaechi’s involvement.
Eze further admonished Okocha to focus on the present rather than speculating about the future, citing the Bible’s warning against presuming knowledge of tomorrow.
He said those allegedly sponsoring him to “be concerned about the fact that the country once known as Africa’s giant has collapsed in all facets under the nose of Tinubu, and channel energy towards fashioning out solutions, if they have any, to the gamut of problems they have created impeding Nigeria’s progress.”
He also urged Okocha to consult with Tinubu and the APC founders to understand the party’s leadership structure. He said that Tinubu remained the National Leader of the party despite Buhari’s emergence as president in 2015, while Amaechi led the South-South region.
Additionally, Eze accused Okocha of orchestrating a paid protest in support of Tinubu, which cost over fifty million Naira, in an attempt to curry favour with his benefactors.
