Following the declaration of Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the Edo governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the former President, Muhammadu Buhari has sent his congratulatory message.
Buhari in a congratulatory message to the All Progressives Congress candidate, described the win as historic.
The former President expressed hope that the new government led by Okpebholo would work for the good of the Edo people.
He said that he believes that the new government will work with all stakeholders to strengthen democracy and maintain the growth and development of the state.
He also commended the people of Edo State and the electoral commission for diligently carrying out their duties during the elections.
Okpebholo won the Edo governorship election on Saturday, September 21, after flooring his major opponents from the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party.
The APC candidate garnered 291,667 votes, while Asue Ighodalo of PDP got 247,274 votes and LP’s Olumide Akpata, came third with 22,763 votes.
