A lawyer and right activist, Inibehe Effiong, has mocked President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing a dead man, Tobias Chukwuemeka Okwuru into the Federal Character Commission.
POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that Mr Buhari nominated a dead person as a member of the commission. The deceased, Tobias Chukwuemeka Okwuru died on February 27, 2020. He was a member of the House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015.
The nominees’ names have been sent to the Senate for confirmation. The latest blunder is not new in the history of Mr Buhari’s administration as it will be recalled that in December 2017, he appointed eight deceased people into federal agencies and parastatals.
Speaking with POLITICS NIGERIA on the latest development, Effiong explained why Mr Buhari has a ‘habit’ of appointing dead people into his cabinet.
He said: “The government is a government of a fed person. Since this government came into power, Mr Buhari has demonstrated unparalleled incompetence. During the first tenure, it took him more than six months to appoint his cabinet yet he appointed eight dead people. Same has repeated itself again”
“This is a demonstration of unseriousness towards governance. The dead are getting recognitions than the living. I think what the President did was to appoint representatives for Nigerians that are dead and that’s is the implications,” he said.
