Women empowerment takes center stage as economic hardship bites harder across Nigeria

As Nigeria grapples with escalating economic challenges, the focus on women’s empowerment has intensified in the country.

At the recent International Women Power Conference 2024 held in Abuja, Dr. Rebecca Omokamo Godwin-Isaac, the Chief Executive Officer of Homadil Realty Ltd, delivered a compelling keynote address on the theme “The Resilient Woman.”

She urged women to overcome emotional barriers such as jealousy and envy, which she identified as major obstacles to collective progress.

“Envy, though quieter, is just as dangerous. It grows in the shadows, as we compare ourselves to others feeling inadequate in the face of their achievements.

“Envy is the name of confidence, it makes us to question our worth, blinding us to our own strengths and what we have to offer.

“Jealousy creeps in when we see others succeed and feel that their victory somehow diminishes our worth, we feel threatened instead of inspired.

“But Jealousy is a thief – it steals our focus, our energy, and our potential to uplift one another,” she said.

Dr. Godwin-Isaac condemned the emotional traps that hinder women’s advancement.

“Jealousy is a thief – it steals our focus, our energy, and our potential to uplift one another,” she said, urging women to embrace resilience as a means of overcoming both internal and external challenges.

She explained that resilience is not merely about enduring difficulties; it is the power to rise above and thrive even in adverse circumstances.

She reflected on her personal experiences as a female leader, noting, “As CEO of Homadil Realty, Ltd., and founder of multiple enterprises, I know firsthand the hurdles we face as women in leadership.

“I have battled stereotypes, overcome obstacles, and continuously proven that women deserve a seat at every table.”

In her closing remarks, Dr. Godwin-Isaac celebrated the strength and determination of women, pointing to historical figures such as Margaret Ekpo and Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, whose resilience has paved the way for future generations.

“Through my work with the Girl Yesterday, The Woman Today, I have witnessed the incredible resilience of young women who, against all odds, have risen to become leaders, innovators, and change-makers,” she noted.

The Guest Speaker expressed optimism for a more resilient women laced with strength, compassion and vision in the future.

She therefore reiterated the need for unity and love among women to attain the desired greatness.
