Security operatives on high alert as terrorists now use wall clocks for bombings in Nigeria

Investigations reveal that terrorists in Nigeria have begun using wall clocks as timers to detonate Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) at critical government infrastructure.

This method, aimed at causing maximum destruction, was notably used in a recent attack on the Shiroro/Kaduna transmission power network, which plunged much of Northern Nigeria into darkness.

Sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity to New Telegraph, confirmed that the tactic is now being employed by terrorists to target key assets, causing widespread damage.

The aim appears to be not only to destroy but to disrupt essential services, with the potential for significant socio-economic impact.

In response to the emerging threat, Nigeria’s military and security agencies have ramped up their efforts to combat IEDs.

Special training programs are being organized for personnel across military, security, intelligence, and law enforcement agencies to improve their ability to detect and neutralize explosives before they can cause harm.

The counter-IED courses focus on equipping operatives with advanced skills to combat the evolving tactics of terrorism.

A senior official stated, “Terrorists have resorted to using wall clocks to detonate IEDs because of the method’s ability to evade detection. They are specifically targeting critical infrastructure with the aim of inflicting severe damage.”

To counter this growing threat, there is a heightened focus on preparing first responders and bomb technicians through regular assessments and counter-IED drills.

Additionally, the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) is working closely with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) to curb the growing terrorism threat.

Despite the challenges, sources have assured the public that security forces are making significant progress in containing the insurgency.

“Efforts are ongoing, and terrorists are being systematically neutralized. The resolve of the state remains strong, and the days of these criminals testing our strength are numbered,” said one source.

Already, the intensified security operations have led to the elimination of many terrorist commanders and fighters.
