FCT police launch manhunt for gunmen who invaded Abuja estate

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt following a violent attack on Efab Global Estate in the Idu Industrial Area of Abuja.

Over 20 gunmen stormed the estate around midnight on Wednesday, injuring at least five security guards and robbing multiple homes.

Eyewitnesses described the assault as a well-coordinated operation, with gunshots fired to instil fear and chaos.

The attackers overwhelmed the estate’s security personnel, inflicting machete injuries on five guards before looting cash, mobile phones, jewellery, and other valuables from six homes.

A resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, recounted the terrifying ordeal: “We were woken by the sound of gunshots and screams. The gunmen were over 20 and overpowered our security guards.

“They macheted five of our guards and stole cash, phones, jewellery, and other valuables. Some victims were even forced to transfer money to designated accounts under duress.”

Responding swiftly to the distress call, Area Commander Life Camp, ACP Harrison Oruruo, led a tactical team to the scene. However, the suspects had fled before the police arrived.

FCT Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh confirmed that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.

She clarified that the incident was reported at 4:05 AM on May 21, 2025, and involved unauthorized entry through the estate’s rear perimeter fence.

Adeh further stated that security measures have been reinforced in collaboration with vigilante groups and community stakeholders to prevent future incidents.

She said the FCT Police Commissioner, CP Ajao Adewale, urged residents and estate management to properly vet private security personnel and domestic staff and to work closely with local police to enhance community security.

She said residents were also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police via emergency numbers provided by the command.
