COVID-19: Nigeria will continue with trial of Hydroxylchloroquine – NAFDAC

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has said Nigeria will continue with clinical trials of Hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of the deadly Coronavirus.

This newspaper reports that the World Health Organization, WHO, on Monday canceled clinical trials of the drugs over safety concerns.

But speaking on the development on a TVC programme, Your View, on Tuesday, NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the cancelation of the drug trial by WHO will not affect the country’s trial, which has started in some states.

She noted that the WHO should provide where the study was conducted which gave a high mortality rate among COVID-19 Patients who took the drugs.

Adeyeye added that the agency has not received the imported herbal remedy from Madagascar used for treating Coronavirus. She, however, promised to speed up the laboratory analysis of the drugs once it received it from the government.
