Nigerian music star Zlatan Ibile has called out the Federal Government for turning a blind eye to the growing hardship faced by citizens.
The artist expressed frustration over how citizens are gradually adapting to poverty and hardship as if it were normal.
Speaking in a recent interview with Madame Joyce in the United Kingdom, Zlatan reacted to British rapper Dave’s comments on Nigeria’s club culture and the stark contrast between wealthy clubgoers and struggling beggars outside.
“We are used to it [suffering and smiling], that’s how it has always been and the government isn’t doing anything about it,” he lamented.
The singer said many Nigerians have accepted suffering as a way of life because the government has done little to improve the economy or support struggling citizens.
He stressed that the situation has worsened, with prices of goods and basic needs rising beyond reach.
Zlatan also expressed concern about the attitude of some street beggars, saying some of them have turned begging into a career rather than seeking productive means of survival.
He described their growing sense of entitlement as “annoying.”
The “Zanku” crooner urged street beggars to pursue productive and dignified means of livelihood, noting that self-reliance is the only way out of poverty.
Zlatan’s remarks echo the frustration of many Nigerians who have continued to cry out over inflation, fuel costs, and unemployment under the current administration.
