Hon. Tunji Akinosi, a member of the House of Representatives from Ado-Odo/Ota federal constituency, has dismissed comments attributed to Donald Trump, former president of the United States, on the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

Trump had said the US could deploy military forces to stop what he described as genocide against Christians in the country.

Akinosi questioned the basis of the claim, saying Nigeria was recording progress in the fight against insecurity.

He said the administration of President Bola Tinubu was addressing security issues “decisively and steadily achieving success”.

Akinosi said insecurity did not begin under the current government, adding that “successes are being recorded across several fronts”.

He said Trump’s remarks should be viewed as “more of a political declaration”.

He said there was no need for panic, adding that the president remained “in firm control”.

“To Nigerians, there is no cause for alarm, no reason for apprehension; we are on top of it and the president is leading us well,” he said.
