The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its decision to proceed with its National Convention scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025, despite two separate court orders restraining it from doing so.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, who also serves as Secretary of the Publicity and Communication Sub-Committee of the 2025 National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC), said preparations for the convention were ongoing and that it would hold as planned.
Ologunagba urged party members and the public to disregard reports suggesting that the event had been postponed.
“The National Working Committee (NWC) and the 2025 National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) inform all party members and the general public that the 2025 National Convention of the PDP has not been postponed but will hold as scheduled on Saturday, 15th and Sunday, 16th November, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital,” the statement read.
He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of instigating efforts to halt the PDP’s convention in a bid to weaken the opposition and advance what he described as a one-party agenda.
“We are aware of the APC’s plots to destabilize the opposition and impose a one-party state in Nigeria. These efforts will be lawfully resisted,” Ologunagba added.
The party further assured members and supporters that all arrangements for the convention were on course and expressed gratitude to those who had already arrived in Ibadan ahead of the event.
“While thanking Nigerians for their overwhelming support, the NCOC welcomes all delegates, party leaders, officials, and supporters who have begun arriving in Ibadan for the National Convention,” the statement concluded.
Politics Nigeria earlier reported that the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, ordered the PDP to suspend its planned convention pending the determination of a substantive suit filed by former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido.
